I love vintage frames, especially the ones with unique matting. Most of my frames are rescued from yard sales & thrift stores. Usually there is an exsisting painting within the frame, sometimes I hang them on my wall "as is" and some I cover up. This particular frame had an asian style vertical painting in it. I envisioned this painting in a horizontal fashion on my wall. So......I sanded down the masonite board that was already in place, to get rid of some of the detail made by the thick paint applied many years ago. Then I covered it in a light minty color. The image is one of my all time favorites, which I often use for stationary. I found it in a copy-right free clip art book, with vintage designs. The original is more square. I stretched it by eye and now my little art deco sea nymph looks right at home in this frame. I used a deep crimson red color which brings out the sun in the adjacent painting. I think this design would make a gorgeous tattoo. Dont you?
